O seguro baseado em índices (Index-based insurance (IBI)) indemniza os agricultores em caso de perda (Greatrex et al. 2015). O IBI geralmente usa índices «proxy» relacionados com os riscos específicos (muitas vezes relacionados com factores climáticos) que podem afectar a produção agrícola.
