Dr. Kumwenda has got:
• Advanced academic and research qualifications in economics which demonstrate his capacity to collect and analyse data, both qualitative and quantitative.
• Collaborative research studies, training facilitation and assessment with top level Universities in Southern Africa, including the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Malawi); University of Witwatersrand (South Africa); University of Johannesburg (RSA); and the University of KwaZulu-Natal (RSA).
• Over 30 years’ combined professional and consulting experience in major sectors of the Malawian economy – agriculture, education, and health – in the areas of monitoring and evaluation; public finance; and policy and project formulation.
• Comprehensive experience with development and financing approaches of the Government of Malawi and of major development partners, including the European Union, World Bank, DFID, USAID, and IFAD.
Dr Kumwenda has held several responsible positions in the wider society, notably:
1) Board Trustee, Economics Association of Malawi (2018 to date);
2) Chairman, Food Security Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Working Group, 2007-2010
3) Chairman, Malawi National Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC). 2005-2010
4) National Coordinator, multi-donor funded Joint Support Programme for Monitoring and Evaluation (UNDP, EU, DFID, GTZ, NORAD). 2007-2010;
5) External Examiner, University of Kwazulu-Natal and University of Malawi, 2011 to date.
